Twenty years after America cooled on Hulkamania, Hobbitmania is sweeping the nation. Despite some complaints about length of the movie from pussies, it looks to be a lot of fun. I like Tolkien’s books on the One Ring a lot. I’ve read The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings books a couple of times and I always enjoy them. One thing occurred to me today, and I wonder if I just missed it. In the LotR books, there are different sorts of Hobbits, that is to say, Hobbits with differing customs and attitudes in the various parts of the Shire. There are different sorts of elves, wood elves and high elves and such. Humans are all sorts of different from place to place and even the orcs have their own factions. But dwarves are just dwarves. They live in mountains and make stuff and mine ore. Am I mistaken?
